REFAT succeeded to implement the photovoltaic solar pumping pilot stations for small-scale irrigation

10 January, 2022

In the framework of the REFAT project "Renewable Energies for Agricultural and Rural Development in Tunisia", implemented by MEDREC, the agricultural-services companies have successfully carried out the implementation of photovoltaic water pumping stations with a total power of 148.65 kWp, located in the project's target regions : Gafsa, Sidi Bouzid, Kasserine, Sousse and Kairouan. The pilot installations are in the benefit of small-scale irrigation and will contribute to avoid the emission of 2668 tons of carbon over the next 25 years, considering the degradation of their photovoltaic cells.

These agricultural-services companies were created following a training session in agricultural techniques, photovoltaic installation and business creation, animated by MEDREC. 10 candidates among the 26 beneficiaries were selected to receive grants as seed funds to create their own agricultural service companies in the project’s target regions.

A series of media capsules were created as a testimony for the integration of this type of pilot system in the agricultural activities of the beneficiary as part of the mission of the selected bidder of the call for tenders N°REF01/2021:
