About Us

The Mediterranean Renewable Energy Centre - MEDREC- is a think-tank and an operational platform for regional cooperation. Its core mission is to support and boost collaboration for Sustainable Development and energy transition in the Mediterranean region mainly through the design and the implementation of projects with support from different funding agencies.

MEDREC is a non-profit Economic Interest Group based in Tunis, jointly created by the Italian Ministry of Environment and the Tunisian Ministry of Energy with the participation of different agencies in charge of energy management in the Mediterranean region.

Medrec’s work covers different topics, mainly :

  • Sustainable development;
  • Climate change adaptation and mitigation;
  • Technological innovation for sustainable development;
  • Green jobs for sustainable growth;
  • Renewable energy  & Energy efficiency;
  • Sustainable natural resources management;
  • Eco-innovation and circular economy.

Thanks to a highly qualified and committed team, MEDREC has been effectively assisting Mediterranean public and private actors and NGOs with expertise in:

Director of MEDREC and General Director of the Italian-Mediterranean cooperation agency APREIME and the agency for the promotion of italo-tuniso-european economic relations APREITE since their foundation in 1996, was previously an operational point of the IMELS in Tunisia, of the Lombardy Region in Tunisia and Confartigianato (Italian Small Entreprises Association) in North Africa, of Milan’s Bocconi University in Tunisia, and delegate of the Milan trade fair in Tunisia and the fair of Verona in North Africa, was the advisor of the 50 million euros investment fund Euromed created by Finlombarda, a venture capital and private equity securities fund launched in 2006 with the aim of investing in the countries of the Euro-Mediterranean area.

Full professor of energy systems at Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Tunis (ENIT), has occupied several managerial positions: Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Tunisia, Dean of ENIT, Director General of Higher Education within the Ministry of Higher Education..., led and coordinated 28 research projects on RES funded by Tunisian ministries, EU Commission and British Council in the fields of energy and has over 50 international publications.
