Introducing Med-EcoSure Cross-border Living Lab initiative for energy renovations of university buildings

5 March, 2020

The core concept of the Mediterranean Cross-border Living Lab (MCbLL) under the Med-EcoSuRe project is that working with stakeholders can produce more effective innovative solutions. The idea is to develop physical and virtual tools to stimulate participatory processes, supporting universityโ€™ building manager with predictive tools and enhancing their capacity to plan and implement sustainable energy mix strategies and technologies in the different Mediterranean climatic contexts.

The MCbLL is an international network of people with knowledge and know-how on eco-solutions, connected through a platform and operating on local pilots, related to the renovations of university buildings in the Mediterranean area.

โ€‹

The general objective of the MCbLL is to collaboratively implement innovation towards eco-sustainable energy renovation solutions for Mediterranean higher education institutions, developing and transferring knowledge on the design and implementation of energy high-performance renovations.

The specific objective of the MCbLL is to turn university managers into active players: as a matter of fact, they are traditionally considered as passive technical or administrative subjects, to whom new approaches and solutions are simply proposed. Instead, by means of the MCbLL, they will become active players, contributing to the co-creation and experimentation of emerging ideas, breakthrough scenarios and innovative concepts.

The MCbLL involves different typologies of stakeholders:

  • National and regional energy management authorities
  • University decision makers
  • Socio-economic operators in renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors
  • University energy managers
  • Academic staff (professors, researchers and Students) in Energy/Green building departments.

To announce the establishment of the MCbLL, a workshop will be hosted by each partner university in Tunisia, Italy, Palestine and Spain for the 'recruitment' among the national stakeholders and decision-makers sphere.
