The Minister of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Fisheries, Oussama Kheriji, chaired on Wednesday June 24 2020, a ceremony for the distribution of financial allocations for the benefit of 10 young promoters graduated from higher education, as part of the REFAT project for the development of renewable energy in the agricultural and rural sectors in the governorates of Gafsa, Sidi Bouzid, Kasserine, Kairouan and Sousse.
The minister confirmed that the project mission is aligned with international efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, to contribute to national efforts to limit the use of fossil energy and introduce incentives for more equitable production and consumption in the use of energy for the benefit of small farmers in addition to the development of green jobs.
Project estimates indicate a reduction in emissions of 136 ktCO2 per year through the adoption of sustainable irrigation practices and 856 ktCO2 per year from water treatment activities.
