MEDREC participates to the INSTM PEER PROJECT FINAL CONFERENCE on the Potential of Currents along the Tunisia Coasts for Renewable Power Generation

16 June, 2021

The National Institute for Marine Science and Technology (INSTM) organized on the 16th and 17th of June the final conference for the PEER Project titled “Potential of currents along the Tunisian Coasts for renewable energy generation”

The project, supported by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), provided detailed information on ocean currents, temperature, salinity, and sea level of water bodies throughout Tunisian coasts. A collaborative work between INSTM and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) provided high resolution and very precise information on marine dynamics along the Tunisian costs which allowed identification of areas where the exploitation of marine energy is potentially feasible.

MEDREC Director, Mr. Marco Polverari presented the center expertise and recent activities as well the ongoing collaborative work with the INSTM, specially following the recently signed INSTM-MEDREC cooperation agreement. Future potential joint initiatives capitalizing on the PEER project results for the exploitation of renewable marine energy were also discussed with the different stakeholders attending the conference.
