Med-EcoSuRe shares the experience of expanding the knowledge and management capacity of building rehabilitation

17 December, 2020

The Department of Architecture (DIDA) team at the University of Florence published a research paper in the framework of Med-EcoSuRe on expanding the knowledge and management capacity of public buildings stock for energy efficiency rehabilitations.

The paper shares the experience of Med-EcoSuRe, particularly the methodology of Digital Twin (the digital representation of the physical building), merging both the building performance with indoor environmental data and well-being characteristics.

The presented pilot building is located in the Santa Verdiana building complex, School of Architecture of the University of Florence, which sits in the UNESCO city-centre. A Digital Twin, of this pilot university building under renovation, is developed, tackling the open digital challenges in the construction and building sectors.

The Pilot Project of the Digital Twin will be helpful to demonstrate its scalability to the entire heritage building stock, providing Public Administrations with a powerful method for the energy rehabilitation of public buildings to be supported by Digital Twin, with monitoring data on indoor qualityreal performance of building envelope as well as the contribution of end user behavior.
