[REFAT] SONEDE launches the construction of a 512kW photovoltaic power plant at Chott El Fejij, Gabès

In the framework of REFAT project, the National Water Distribution Utility – SONEDE started the installation of a 512kW photovoltaic power plant, for pumping drinking water at Chott El Fejij, Gabès and which covers 8000 square meters. 

This project, aiming at promoting renewable energies and sustainable water management, is funded by the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Fisheries and the Italian Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Tunisia and implemented by MEDREC.

REFAT launches the 512 kWc photovoltaic installation at Chott El Fejij, Gabes

SATER SOLAR SA, the head of the Tunisian-Italian consortium selected for the installation of 512 kWc Photovoltaic power plant in the framework of the call for tenders N°01/2019 of REFAT project, has officially launched, on April 1st, 2021, the landscaping process of the plant which will be implemented in SONEDE water pumping station located in Chott El Fejij, Gabes. 

The implementation of this power plant is a step towards reducing Energy consumption of water supply in small-scale irrigation and drinking water production in remote areas, which is expected to cover 20% of the energy consumption of the water pumping station.
