Launched in 2010, PROSOL Elec is a support mechanism for the diffusion of the photovoltaic systems in the residential sector to partially cover the needs on electric energy. This program aims to reach, by 2016, the installation of 15 MW of solar roofs (6000 houses and 1000 public and private buildings).
Given the promising prospect of solar photovoltaic, Tunisia seeks to develop grid-connected applications of this technology nationwide especially since it has favorable conditions of sunlight and a good feedback through projects implemented in the field of rural electrification and water pumping by solar energy.
The Prosol Elec project concerning the realization of photovoltaic installations in the residential sector took advantage of the financial support of Italian Cooperation, as stated in the Memorandum of Understanding signed in December 2009, in Tunis, between the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea (IMELS), the Tunisian Ministry of Industry and the National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME).
